Ms. Franky Marshall has received Tales of the Cocktail: American Bartender of the Year Top 10 list. Mr. Brown is the drink most closely linked to Ms. Franky Marshall: a rich, subtly buzzy, copper-hued cocktail built on bourbon, coffee liqueur, vanilla syrup, and bitters. At Clover Club in 2011, it read like a vanilla-inflected Coffee Old Fashioned—familiar in structure, but shifted enough to register as something new. The drink reflects the larger shape of her work: respect for classic form, with enough instinct and wit to make the result feel distinctly hers.
