i. Biography
Raised between Naples, Italy, and Switzerland, Silvio Ursini’s hospitality work sits in the discipline of translation: brand codes, spatial cues, food, service, and visual identity made legible inside a hotel. At Bulgari, that has meant carrying the language of a Roman luxury house into architecture, restaurants, materials, atmosphere, and operations without reducing creative direction to styling. The work is project-based: each hotel tests how much continuity a house can keep while adapting to the expectations of a specific city.
Coming Up
In hotel work at this level, the room and restaurant are only part of the product; the craft is in how a guest reads sequence, scale, tone, and service before anything is explained. Brand work at Bulgari, where Silvio Ursini worked as Marketing Director from 1989, began with message and identity rather than operations. His later role as Group Creative Director at Bulgari extended that discipline into the house’s visual and strategic language: image, palette, launch atmosphere, and cross-cultural consistency held together without losing the center of the brand. Hotel creative direction at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts has required a single system to operate across different cities. The job is to keep the hotels recognizably connected to Bulgari while allowing each destination to set part of the brief.
Where They Are Now
Bulgari Hotel Tokyo, opened by Bulgari Hotels & Resorts as its eighth hotel on April 4, shows the method in a city where design, ceremony, and culinary precision carry their own weight. Silvio Ursini describes the Tokyo property as intertwining Italian and Japanese sensibilities through culinary artistry and design details. That framing treats food, materials, rooms, and service gestures as connected forms of taste rather than separate departments. Place, in this model, is not background decoration. Tokyo becomes a counterpart to the Bulgari house language, with Italian sensibility and Japanese sensibility held in the same project. The craft is calibration: giving each element a reason to be there, and keeping luxury persuasive through restraint rather than excess. Rome carries another kind of pressure in the portfolio. Ursini described the Bulgari Hotel Rome opening as especially significant because Rome has been Bulgari’s home for 140 years. Here the work is not only adaptation to a city but return to source: heritage, memory, and contemporary hotel practice meeting in the place where the house identity was formed.
Signature
The Bulgari Hotels & Resorts project, Bulgari Hotel Milan, Bulgari Hotel Tokyo, Bulgari Hotel London, and Bulgari Hotel Paris show a portfolio built as a collection rather than a repeated template. With Silvio Ursini’s direction inside the work, each property carries the Bulgari name while still having to answer to its own city, pace, and local expectations of luxury. Continuity is the hard part in this kind of hotel craft. Bulgari Hotel Milan, Bulgari Hotel London, Bulgari Hotel Paris, and Bulgari Hotel Tokyo all sit in cities with their own established codes. Ursini’s role is to keep the house language clear without flattening those differences, so recognition and local specificity can operate together.
In Their Words “From the very beginning our strategy was very clear: to create a small collection of projects of the highest caliber.” The statement defines scale as a craft decision. Small collection, highest caliber: the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts project is framed around selection, control, and consistency rather than expansion for its own sake. It also explains how a hotel can extend the identity of a house without diluting it.
