The Climb

Training at the San Michele Institute gave Alessandro Castellani a technical base before vineyard and cellar work in Tuscany and Valpolicella sharpened the method. At Isole e Olena, he worked as winemaker and learned the discipline of shaping fruit and site into wines with precision and lift. Since 2000, Ca' La Bionda has been the place where that line of work has been carried forward, with Castellani as winemaker / proprietor in Marano di Valpolicella Classico zone. The role reflects a style built on measured decisions, attention to detail, and balance over excess.

Today

At Ca' La Bionda, the work under Alessandro Castellani is guided by a defined reading of what Valpolicella can express. The house choice, as he puts it, was to stay with Valpolicella and pursue “a different way from drying” in order to bring out “the Corvina vine and the territory from which it comes.” That approach treats freshness as a structural requirement rather than a fashion, and it places elegance in service of site expression. His own formulation is direct: “We aim for freshness and elegance instead of power and alcohol.”
