Alexander Loersch

The Climb

Since 2002, Alexander Loersch has been responsible for the expansion of the wines in the cellar and runs the family business of Weingut Loersch. That combination of cellar responsibility and family leadership puts him at the center of the estate’s daily rhythm, where decisions made below ground shape the wines above it. The work is long-term and cumulative, built on consistency rather than display. In Leiwen, that kind of stewardship is the craft itself.

Today

He continues to run the family business and is responsible for cellar work. Riesling and Pinot Noir remain his focus. Those grapes set the frame for the estate’s current work and require the sort of precision that comes from close attention in the cellar. The task is practical and interpretive at once: hold to what the family has built, and keep refining it season by season.

Signature

Alexander's signature dishes include Devon-Terrassen, Blauschiefer Riesling Troken, Glimmerschiefer Feinherb Riesling, and Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Kabinett. Taken together, these names trace a style that stays close to place and to the vineyard language of the estate. The list reads as a working shorthand for the cellar: specific, rooted, and tied to the identity of Weingut Loersch.

Recognition

Alexander's honors include The Riesling Producer Award, Best German Wine Producer Austrian Wine Challenge, State Honor Award, and Honorary Award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. Those recognitions place his work in a wider field while leaving the center of gravity where it belongs: with the family estate, the cellar, and the responsibilities he took on in 2002.
