Alison Doran started as a harvest intern at Simi Winery (from 1973), then moved into cellar work as a cellar rat at Winery in Alsace, France (from 1975), before taking on enologist duties at Start-up winery in Paso Robles. From there, the path continued through the lab and into production: she worked as a lab technician at Firestone Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley (1976–1981), then as winemaker at Firestone Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley (1981–2001), before becoming winemaker at Hill Family Estate (from 2001).
