i. Biography
Born in Stockholm on March 18, 1972, the Swedish sommelier Andreas Larsson entered wine through gastronomy, bringing a chef’s working habits — recall, repetition, sensory sorting, and table awareness — into the dining room.
The Path
Kitchen work gave the later sommelier his first framework for taste. Early in his career, Andreas Larsson worked as a chef, a foundation that informed his understanding of wine, service, and how a bottle functions at the table. Service now sits across restaurant, consulting, and tasting work. Today, Andreas Larsson is Wine Director of PM & Vänner, consultant, and wine taster of Decanter.
The Work Today
The dining-room application of that work is centered at PM & Vänner in Southern Sweden, where Larsson serves as Wine Director and where many guests encounter his practice through selection, pairing, and service. “The senses can definitely be educated, it is not about being a genius, just hard work, memorising, tasting and staying open minded, finding a language and method to describe taste and flavor, being able to communicate it.”
In Their Words “When I first tasted a great wine, I was so fascinated, I wanted to know how this magical beverage could express so much, show such diversity, complexity, and longevity, I wanted to know it all.”
Acclaim
Competition recognition marks the sommelier track across national, regional, continental, and global levels: Andreas's honors include World's Best Sommelier (2007), Best Sommelier in Europe (2004), Best Sommelier in Scandinavia (2002), and Best Sommelier in Sweden (2001).
