i. Biography
He said, “I started working in gastronomy when I was about 12. At 14 I was waiting tables at weddings. Then I became a bartender.” That early service work trained the core habits of the trade: reading a room, keeping pace under pressure, and handling the small tasks that make hospitality feel controlled. Long before formal titles, Andres Rosberg was learning the mechanics of guest care from the floor and the bar.
Coming Up
Behind the bar at Filo in Buenos Aires, Argentina (from 1995), Rosberg entered the daily discipline of service at a working pace. The role at Gran Bardanson in Buenos Aires, Argentina as opening staff / team member (from 1998) added another layer of practice, where the early shape of a venue depends on consistency, adjustment, and first impressions. By 2000, he was working as sommelier at Jockey Club de San Isidro in San Isidro, Argentina, marking a shift from service roles into a specialist position built on judgment and technical command. The move from bartender to opening staff / team member to sommelier shows a career built through direct floor experience. As the work expanded, so did the scope of responsibility. He went on to serve as Vice President for the Americas at International Sommelier Association, president at Argentine Sommelier Association, and president at International Sommelier Association in Reims, France (from 2019). Those positions place Andres Rosberg in the work of standards, representation, and institutional oversight, where the trade depends on people who can carry both practice and administration. A key organizational milestone came in 2016, when he organized the 2016 World Best Sommelier competition at World Best Sommelier competition in Mendoza, Argentina (2016). Running an event of that scale calls for the same attributes expected in the sommelier trade itself: precision, timing, and close attention to detail.
Where They Are Now
He now serves as president of the Argentine Sommelier Association in Argentina. He is also Vice President for the Americas of the International Sommelier Association. Those roles place him within both the national association and the regional body, linking Argentine sommelier work to a wider professional network. The throughline is service sharpened into leadership. Starting with weddings at 14 and moving through bar work, opening teams, and sommelier posts, Andres Rosberg built his career by accumulating practical experience before taking on the responsibility of representing the field.
In Their Words “I am the head of the Argentine Sommelier Association. I’m also Vice President for the Americas of the International Sommelier Association.”
