His move into ownership was practical, not romantic: Bastien Gautheron says, “I had some family vines that were becoming free and it was simply the case of ‘now or never.’” That decision marks the shift from working another cellar’s rhythm to setting his own, with the craft now carried in his own name.
Coming Up
The early training at Olivier Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet until 2019 gave Bastien Gautheron the working discipline of the trade: timing, touch and restraint applied day after day. Since 2020, as vigneron and winemaker of Maison Gautheron d'Anost, he has applied that foundation in a more direct setting, where the decisions are his own.
Where They Are Now
The method at Maison Gautheron d'Anost is built around simple vinification, with relatively short macerations and fermentations used to avoid over-extraction. The aim is shape and freshness rather than weight, keeping the wines within a narrow, deliberate frame. Bastien Gautheron is explicit about the cellar line: “I’m not a ‘natural’ winemaker – I use some sulfur in the tanks at the start but nothing more until preparing the wines for bottling.” It is a straightforward working position, defined by control, balance and timing from tank to bottle.

Bastien Gautheron’s signature wines include Bouzeron, Les Louères, Pommard Les Vignots, Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Goudelettes, Marsannay ‘Au Quartier’, and Ladoix 1er Cru ‘Les Grechons’. The through-line is less about display than about allowing each bottling to hold its own ground.
