The Path

Scholarship and publishing formed the first toolkit in Burt Wolf’s work across food, travel, and media. The High School of Music & Art, New York University, and New York University Law School gave that practice a disciplined base, one built for close observation, clear structure, and attention to context. Food retail and hospitality entered the picture in 1975, when Burt Wolf worked as designer and manager at Cook's Kitchen in United States. The role sat at the point where display, product, and service meet, and it extended his practice from the page into the material conditions of the trade. From 1979–1982, the weekly columnist work at The Washington Post added cadence and consistency, with Burt Wolf writing on a regular deadline for readers who expected both clarity and point of view. Restaurant development expanded that range again in 1989, when Burt Wolf served as restaurant development consultant at Brennan Restaurant group in Memphis. The work added commercial strategy to a career already moving between editorial and culinary worlds. From 1982 onward, Burt has worked as journalist, writer, and editor of various books and publications, producer of television segments and programs of CNN, ABC, The Discovery Channel, and public broadcasting, and creator and host of Travels & Traditions. The common thread is a steady interest in how people eat, travel, and organize memory, and how those subjects can be translated into usable media. From 2000, Burt Wolf has also been a contributor at Salon.com, extending that editorial practice into another platform. His professional scope has included marketing and public relations client services for Procter & Gamble, eBay, ConAgra Foods, Federated Department Stores, and various governments, as well as product development consultant work for Procter & Gamble, General Foods, McCormick, and Estée Lauder's Origins division. He is also the founder of Double Elephant Press, another part of the same long commitment to publishing and communication.

The Work Today

Today, Burt Wolf continues as the creator and host of Travels & Traditions, a role that carries the same mix of reporting, framing, and cultural attention that has shaped the rest of the career. Alongside that, Burt remains active as a restaurant operator, a writer and editor of books, and a travel industry worker. The present work reflects the breadth of the earlier path: editorial, entrepreneurial, and grounded in the practical work of reaching audiences across platforms.
