The Path

Texas Tech University gave Jason Englert the technical base, and a temporary lab position at Llano Estacado Winery in Lubbock, Texas, moved that training into cellar work. From there, the career settled into the routines that define winemaking: observation, adjustment, and the patience to keep working a fruit through to balance. Since 2004, he has been winemaker at Grape Creek Vineyards in Fredericksburg, Texas, holding a role that has tracked alongside the state’s own changes in grape growing and wine production. The line is practical throughout: Texas education, lab experience, and a long run making wine in Fredericksburg.
