The Path
The weight of a Sauternes estate is earned over seasons, not slogans, and that is the scale on which Luc Planty has worked at Château Guiraud. Since 2019, he was the former general manager, after joining the château’s project in 2019 and leaving Château Guiraud in 2026. The job sits between inheritance and present-tense execution: carrying the long reputation of the estate while keeping the work legible in the here and now. Early in his career, the director role at Château Guiraud put Planty inside one of Sauternes’ more closely watched properties. From there, the discipline of the place becomes part of the brief: reading the property’s pace, working within timing that matters, and managing a name that already carries weight. That continuity is visible in his current position, where familiarity with the estate is not a backdrop but a working tool. “we have one particularity we was the only one to be certified in organic farming since 2011.” Luc has said.
The Work Today
In Sauternes, that means holding sweet wine country in view while also making room for dry white wines, a second line that broadens the estate’s range without moving it off site or off tradition. The dry white wines sharpen the current chapter at Château Guiraud by adding contrast to a region often read through its historic sweet wines. Under Planty, the point is not reinvention for its own sake but a methodical handling of the house’s existing language. The work is cumulative, exacting, and built on decisions made through picking and winemaking rather than on noise.
Acclaim
In the Sauternes and Preignac landscape, classification still sets the terms. In that company, every current effort at Château Guiraud is read against a local standard where place, rank, and history remain active reference points.
