The Climb
Training at Centro de Estudios Enologicos, INTA Mendoza, Paula Borgo entered wine through the vineyard floor and harvest work, not the tasting room. She began at Bodega Doña Paula in Argentina in 2001, then moved the same year to Kendall Jackson in California. Those early seasons, split between Argentina and California, established a working fluency in the demands of harvest and the pace of different regions. At Bodega Séptima in Mendoza, Argentina, Borgo built her career in successive cellar roles over more than two decades. She served as winemaker from 2002–2004, then as second winemaker / laboratory lead from 2004–2008, assistant winemaker from 2008–2010, and head winemaker from 2010–2023. The sequence matters: vineyard labor, lab work, and cellar responsibility formed a continuous set of skills inside one winery’s program. Since 2023, Paula Borgo has been director of winemaking at Artesa Winery & Vineyards. The role gathers the practical range already visible in her earlier posts: harvest-side discipline, laboratory oversight, and the judgment required to carry a wine program across styles and vintages.
Today
The current title is Director of Winemaking, and that is the present-tense center of Paula Borgo's work.
Signature
Paula Borgo's signature wines include Bodega Séptima Malbec, Mendoza 2018 and Séptima Obra Reserve Malbec 2020. Both sit inside a long association with Bodega Séptima and point to a program shaped by Malbec across different expressions.
In Their Words “From that moment, I have been responsible for all the sparkling wines, still red wines, and white wines.”
Recognition
Borgo's own account stays on the work itself: "From that moment, I have been responsible for all the sparkling wines, still red wines, and white wines." "We risk the year in a couple of months, but adding Covid-19 is one of the biggest challenges that life has put me in." Taken together, the lines describe a cellar career built on range and responsibility, with the pressure of production and the realities of seasonality always in view. The record is plain, and that plainness is the point: the work is the proof.
