Tami Lotz

The Path

Training at University of California, Davis gave Tami Lotz the technical base for a career built on precision and patience. In 2003, she joined Mumm Napa as an intern, learning the cadence of the winery from within and beginning a working relationship with the house that deepened over time. She later became Assistant Winemaker at Mumm Napa, holding that role through 2019 and moving steadily toward the center of the sparkling program. Since 2019, Tami has served as Head Winemaker of Mumm Napa, bringing that accumulated knowledge into leadership. The sequence is direct: intern, Assistant Winemaker, then the person guiding the winery’s sparkling wine program. It reads as continuity, with the pace and demands of the place understood from the inside.

The Work Today

The title fits the path. Tami leads the cellar with the perspective of someone who has worked through the house’s routines over many years, moving from entry-level learning to full responsibility. “Every vintage and every blend is different. But Devaux Ranch is a blend that is a true expression of place and of the vintage. It’s a vineyard to which I feel a special connection.” That way of speaking points to the core of the work: a single vineyard used as a point of reference, and a vintage shaped until it carries the vineyard’s character cleanly. At Mumm Napa, that is where the craft sits.

Signature

Tami's signature wines include Devaux Ranch, Brut Rosé, 2016 DVX, and Brut Prestige. Together, they show the range of her work at Mumm Napa, from site-driven expression to the house’s polished sparkling style.

Acclaim

Lotz’s recognition sits in the clarity of a single career path at one named winery and a defined specialization in sparkling wine. She interned at the house, returned in 2003 after a year abroad, worked as Assistant Winemaker through 2019, and then took over as Head Winemaker. Since 2019, that responsibility has been her measure: leading the cellar for a Napa sparkling wine producer in the méthode traditionnelle style that defines her work today.
