The Climb

Tomás Postigo began as winemaker at Protos in Peñafiel, Valladolid (1984–1988). Those four years set the first outline of his professional method: patient, exacting, and built through repetition. Cellar work demands discipline before it gives recognition, and Postigo’s early years point to a career formed by steady practice rather than display. He said, “I spent four wonderful years there, from 1984 to 1988.” From there, his Ribera del Duero career continued through Protos and Pago de Carraovejas, advancing from cellar work into technical and general direction. The movement is a practical one: from making decisions inside the cellar to taking responsibility for the project as a whole. In Tomás Postigo’s case, that widening scope marks the shift from operator to director without losing contact with the work that comes first.

Today

Since 2008, Bodega Tomás Postigo has been his Peñafiel project, with Tomás Postigo serving there as both winemaker and owner. That pairing changes the terms of the work: the cellar becomes not just the place where wine is made, but the site of an individual standard. He put it plainly: “I decided that I had to have my own project.” That decision fits the line of work that came before it. After years spent in cellar work and then in technical and general direction, Bodega Tomás Postigo became the place where those layers could sit under one name. Since 2008, the project has been his own in the most literal sense: made in Peñafiel, led by the same person whose name is on the door.

Signature

Tomás's signature wines include Tomás Postigo Tercer Año, Tomás Postigo Blanco, Tomás Postigo Quinto Año, Tomás Postigo Rebollo, and Tomás Postigo Verdejo 2023. The list shows range without breaking the line of the estate: each wine sits under the same naming logic as the winery itself. For Tomás Postigo, the signatures read as an extension of the project, not a separate layer from it.
