Since 2010, Chopin has held the winemaking responsibilities here, taking on a domaine whose history is measured less by movement than by return. The house dates to 1950, and the family line is seventh-generation Burgundian, rooted at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, just below Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Continuity is not decorative at this address. The original family estate was divided in the 1960s, when André and Daniel Chopin separated their holdings; André’s share passed through Yves Chopin to Arnaud. The work now includes a practical act of reunion, most visibly the 2019 reclamation of a Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru plot from the family’s original holdings. That fact sits quietly behind the bottles. It gives the cellar a particular discipline: one village, one family name, and a winemaker whose tenure is tied to stewardship rather than a sequence of posts.

Ten hectares worked by hand

The domaine farms ten hectares across Côte de Nuits sites that include Nuits-Saint-Georges premiers crus Aux Murgers and Les Damodes, Chambolle-Musigny, Côte de Nuits-Villages, and Clos Vougeot Grand Cru. Pinot Noir carries the red program, with Chardonnay present in the white wines. The farming is described plainly: no herbicides, no insecticides, hand work in the vineyard, ploughing for the soils, and reduced yields to sharpen what each parcel can give.

In the cellar, the method stays close to that fieldwork. The harvest includes 80% whole cluster fermentation, a choice that keeps stems and berries in the conversation rather than stripping the fruit into a simpler register. Bottling is done by gravity and without filtration. Red wines are aged for 3 to 5 years, long enough for structure to settle without asking the cellar to overwrite the vineyard. The house works at small scale, with production cited at approximately 9,000 bottles annually, a figure that makes each parcel more than a name on a label.

The cellar behind the village

This is not a polished visitor machine with the vineyard staged as scenery. The domaine is a family-run Burgundy cellar in Comblanchien, with the work oriented toward rows, soils, barrels, and bottling rather than hospitality theater. The atmosphere is quiet, closer to a working station than a tasting room performance. Limestone and marl sit behind the wines as much as the label does; the southern Côte de Nuits brings a slightly warmer edge than the northern villages, and Chopin answers that with soil work, yield control, and a cellar that resists excess handling.

The bottles give the clearest map of the place: Les Murgers, Les Damodes, Vieilles Vignes, Les Monts de Boncourt, and Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. If there is a next movement here, it is the continued restoration of the family footprint around Comblanchien. For now, the line is held in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
