Since 1993, Jérôme Chezeaux has held the winemaker’s work at Domaine Jérôme Chezeaux in Premeaux-Prissey, keeping his hands on the same family-rooted Burgundy estate rather than passing the role into abstraction. The profession came to him mainly through his father, then through formal training at Lycée Viticole in Beaune, where vineyard discipline and cellar method were set into a more technical frame. That pairing matters here: inheritance without looseness, schooling without rupture.

His station is managerial and practical at once. The domaine carries his name, but the work is not a signature detached from place; it is a sequence of choices made across parcels, cuvées, and vintages. Pinot Noir sits at the center of the house, with Gamay also named in the range, and the estate’s identity comes through Burgundy’s habit of reading wine by exact origin. Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" and Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers" are the cuvées most closely tied to Chezeaux’s hand.

Twelve hectares, fourteen appellations

The domaine works from a 12-hectare mosaic across the Côte de Nuits, with vineyards in Premeaux-Prissey, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, and Vougeot. The scale is small enough for the holdings to remain legible, but broad enough to make the cellar a study in distinctions: village, premier cru, commune, exposure, and the separate authority of each appellation. Fourteen appellations pass through the house’s program, which means the discipline is less about a single house style than about keeping each parcel from being blurred into the next.

The visitor is not being pulled toward noise, design, or novelty, but toward the small differences that make a Côte de Nuits cellar worth standing in: the cut of Pinot Noir from one place, the darker line of another, the way a name on a label becomes more exact after it is poured.
