i. Biography
The work is built around one fixed point: wines that read as vineyard, not formula. Adrien Roustan’s practice follows that line from the cellar back into the vines, with each choice serving clarity of site over stylistic excess.
Coming Up
Winemaking college in Beaune gave Adrien Roustan an early grounding in one of France’s most closely watched wine regions. That was followed by an apprenticeship at Domaine Romanée Conti in Burgundy (2007), where the day-to-day demands of serious winegrowing would have been impossible to miss. In 2009, he founded Domaine d'Ouréa, setting up the estate that became the center of his work. The roles of winemaker and founder sit together here: one tied to craft, the other to continuity.
Where They Are Now
As vigneron récoltant at Domaine d'Ouréa in Vacqueyras, Adrien Roustan works in direct contact with the vines, the estate, and the season’s conditions. The title itself points to a method of work that stays close to the ground, with decisions made in response to what the vintage and the site give. The aim is to make wines that express the vineyard’s unique terroirs. The plots are cultivated using natural methods, with attention paid to balance between the grapes and the terroir so the wines come out refined, elegant, and delicate. The approach favors restraint over force and precision over flourish, leaving less room for intervention and more for place to show through. Manual harvesting is part of that same logic. Adrien Roustan advocates it because it results in wines that feel vibrant, fresh, and radiant. Here, the method is not decorative; it is one more way to hold onto nuance. From Beaune to Burgundy (2007), from the founding of Domaine d'Ouréa in 2009 to his work today in Vacqueyras, the throughline is the same: site first, handling second.
