i. Biography
The Route
Whiskey education often starts with adjacent disciplines before it narrows into distillation. For Alex Chasko, that base was built at the University of Oregon and then carried to Heriot-Watt University, where specialized training in distillation sciences gave the work a technical frame. Irish whiskey production in Dublin carries a long local context, but the modern role requires control of both distillation and blending decisions. In 2012, Alex Chasko became Master Distiller and Blender at Teeling Whiskey, placing him inside that balance of inherited category rules and contemporary production choices. “in the same way that brewers in the Pacific Northwest reinvented the IPA, I hope that Teeling will push the boundaries of Irish whiskey.” Alex has said.
At Work Now
Modern Irish whiskey at Teeling Whiskey Distillery is built through daily decisions around fermentation, maturing stock, and cask selection. Since 2012, Alex Chasko has held the Master Distiller and Blender role, working across those points of control to produce a diverse array of award-winning whiskeys. Category development can come through mashbill and grain choice as much as through finishing and blending. Chasko’s work at Teeling Whiskey includes the use of unusual mashbills and unique grains, extending the range of what Irish whiskey can carry while staying within the discipline of the spirit.
Honors
Trade recognition for distilling and blending is clearest when it names the role. Alex Chasko was named Master Distiller of the Year in 2019 and Distiller of the Year in 2025, awards tied to his work in Irish whiskey and his production role at Teeling Whiskey.
