The Path
Alex Sokol Blosser trained at College (unspecified), Portland State University, and University of California, Davis, building a technical base before moving into the practical work of the trade. The early years ran through vineyard foreman duties at Another producer and then wine sales, giving him firsthand experience on the production side and the market side of wine. In 1998, Alex joined Sokol Blosser Winery in Oregon as full-time vineyard and sales manager, a role that tied field work to communication and kept him close to both the vines and the customer. That remit expanded over time. He became co-president at Sokol Blosser Winery (2008–2023), then added winemaker at Sokol Blosser Winery (2013–2023), each step layering more responsibility onto the same family operation. Today, Alex is president and second-generation winegrower of Sokol Blosser Winery (since 2023), carrying a working legacy forward through continued farm and winery management.
The Work Today
Harvest is the part of the calendar that draws the clearest response from Alex, because it compresses the year’s labor into a single, high-stakes stretch. “The best part of my job is harvest. I love harvest.” In trade terms, that is the point where vineyard decisions, cellar timing, and coordination all meet. The other constant in his work is succession. As the third generation grows up among the vines, he keeps an eye on continuity, with the practical aim of handing over knowledge and responsibility when the time comes. It is a forward-facing view of family business: less about symbolism than about keeping the estate functioning across generations.
In Their Words “Now, as the third generation grows up among the vines, I look ahead with both pride and purpose—preparing, one day to pass the torch and continue sharing the story of our family, our land, and our wines for generations to come.” “At Sokol Blosser, wine isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are. And I’m honored to share our family’s journey, one glass at a time.”
Acclaim
“Our values go beyond the bottle—into the soil, the community, and every guest experience.” The line points past the finished wine and toward the full structure behind it: farming, place, and the way a winery meets its visitors. For Sokol Blosser Winery, the standard is not just what goes into the glass, but the consistency of the work around it and the manner in which that work is presented.
