Production and cellar decisions sit close together at Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer in Magny-lès-Villers, and Alexandre Vernet’s remit has covered both since 2017. A native of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, he brought local familiarity into a role built on precision, continuity, and the day-to-day discipline of making wine work as a system.

Where They Are Now

Current work at the estate is two cuvées: Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Damodes” and Nuits-Saint-Georges Village “Les Hauts Poirets.” Those names mark the scale of the job as much as the wines themselves, with appellation, site, and cellar judgment all folded into the same responsibility. Vernet’s approach reads as one of clarity and restraint, with the practical side of winemaking left to carry the weight. That preference is stated plainly in his own words: “I like the natural things!” Taken as a working principle, it points toward a style that keeps its focus on what is already there in the fruit and the place, rather than trying to dress it up.

Signature

The signature cuvées here are Echezeaux "From Above" Grand Cru, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru « Les Damodes », and Nuits-Saint-Georges Village "Les Hauts Poirets." Read together, they show the range of Vernet’s current portfolio, from Grand Cru to village level, and the kind of work that depends on knowing where each wine sits within Burgundy’s hierarchy. The throughline is not ornament but calibration: site, scale, and the decisions that connect them.
