The approach leaves room for local reference without demanding that inspiration be literal. “I love taking local inspiration, but don’t think it always has to be a physical one.” In practice, that means place can enter the spirit as atmosphere, memory, or suggestion, not only as a visible ingredient or obvious reference. He is just as plainspoken about what spirits are for. For Pienaar, the point is to make something people want to drink, not to build distance around it. “Sure we are making great booze, but at the end of the day it’s just booze. It’s there to enjoy and have fun with. Not to be overthought and get snooty about.” That stance keeps the work grounded: serious about the making, unsentimental about the mythology.

Signature

Andre's signature wines include Ugly Gin, Empire Gin, Orient Gin, and Toasted Mallow Moonshine. The names suggest a range that moves from sharp to playful, but the common thread is a clear intent to make each expression carry its own character without losing the maker’s hand behind it.
