Andrea Burato’s path into wine was built on technical training first: an Engineering degree, then work as a sommelier. That combination gave Burato a working knowledge of precision, service, and tasting before moving into production. Since 2023, Andrea has been owner-winemaker of Burato Wines, a PhD Student at University of Basilicata, and a researcher doing on-farm experimentation in smart practices on processing tomatoes at CREA Research Centre for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops. The throughline is practical work, measured inquiry, and attention to how agriculture behaves over time.

Where They Are Now

Traditional artisanal methods and a minimal-intervention philosophy remain the framework of Andrea Burato’s current work. The vineyard side is built on careful selection of plots, reduced yields, and viticulture that keeps faith with the natural balance of the vineyard. For Burato, restraint is a production method: it is how the region’s identity stays legible in the finished wine instead of being covered over by winemaking effect.

Signature

Valpolicella Superiore DOC and Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva DOCG are the named wines most associated with Andrea Burato’s style. In both, the work points back to the same discipline: careful vineyard selection, reduced yields, and minimal intervention, so the wine stays anchored to place rather than polished away from it.
