Seattle-based video work often starts with utility and ends in authorship. For Andrew Gooi, a grocery-company assignment became the entry point into food video, where timing, framing, and motion had to carry as much weight as the subject itself. The Path
Visual practice in food film is often built across mixed credits, and Andrew Gooi’s early résumé shows that range clearly. He served as cinematographer at Pensil (2012), a role that places technical camera work at the start of his timeline. In Kakehashi: A Portrait of Chef Nobuo Fukuda (2017), he moved into the director’s chair, taking on the shape and emphasis of the piece itself. He then returned to cinematography for The Migrant Kitchen (2018), staying in the lane where food and film meet in immediate, edited form. That work was developed alongside engineering in Arizona and videography at a grocery company.
