The Path

A technical way into wine took shape at Charles Krug Winery (2001), where Andy Robinson moved from harvest intern / vineyard sampler to wine lab technician. That early sequence matters: vineyard observation, then lab work, then the habit of connecting what the fruit does in the field to what the wine requires in the cellar. The next long stretch at Seghesio Family Vineyards as enologist (2003–2015) deepened that approach, building fluency in a house style centered on expressive, heritage-driven wines and on the seasonal decisions that give a winery its continuity. Since 2015, the winemaking role at Seghesio Family Vineyards has carried that same technical throughline. The title changed, but the method did not: read what the vineyard gives, protect it in the cellar, and make choices measured enough to keep the wine aligned with its source.

The Work Today

Since 2015, Robinson has led winemaking at Seghesio Family Vineyards. On drought pressure in the vineyard, he said, "We lost access to water in May of 2022, and we were left with really having to focus on balancing the canopy enough to protect the fruit all the way to September." The point is plain. Under constraint, the work is less about forcing outcomes than about close reading: canopy balance, fruit protection, and attention carried through the season.

Signature

Andy Robinson’s signature wines include Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel 2019 and Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma County 2022. They sit squarely within the range that defines his work at Seghesio Family Vineyards, where Zinfandel stays central and texture carries equal weight with power.
