The Idea

The estate Chaignon created is built around red, white and rosé wines, with Cru Vinsobres and Côtes du Rhône Village Valréas anchoring the range to place. The point is not standardization. It is to keep origin legible, so the wines carry the differences of their landscape rather than being pressed into one shape. Separation is used as a tool, not a gimmick. By working by grape variety and by land plot, Chaignon keeps each parcel’s rhythm intact instead of correcting it away. In that framework, personality is not added late; it is protected from the start.

The Execution

The cellar work begins with sorting out what should stay distinct. Each grape variety, each plot, and each component is handled with that distinction in mind, so the final wines can read clearly. The method is deliberate rather than decorative, with each choice serving the wine’s own profile. Some wines are aged in demi-muids, the 600-liter oak barrels used at the estate. That vessel is part of the shaping, but it stays in support. Chaignon does not apply the same treatment across the board, and that restraint keeps the range from collapsing into a single house style.
