Portrait of Bill Moularadellis
i. Biography
Bill Moularadellis’s work in wine is rooted in Roseworthy and defined by a long connection to Kingston Estate Wines, where technical, managerial, and regional responsibilities have remained closely linked. His career has been shaped by the practical overlap between making wine and representing the interests of the region that produces it. At Kingston Estate Wines in Kingston On Murray, he has kept business direction and cellar practice in the same line of stewardship over time. Since 1985, he has been founder, Managing Director, and Chief Winemaker of Kingston Estate Wines. That long tenure has given the estate continuity in both production and leadership, with a role that spans commercial decisions and winemaking decisions. The structure of that work has kept him closely tied to the winery’s day-to-day operations and its wider identity. Industry service has been a defining feature of his path. He served as executive committee member of the South Australian Wine and Brand Industry Association from 1995 to 2002, member of the Reserve Bank of Australia Small Business Advisory Board from 1997 to 2002, member of the Horticulture Industry Development Board from 1998 to 1999, chairman of the Riverland Wine Industry Development Council from 2001 to 2002, and member of the Knowledge Development Advisory Committee. He also served as president of the Riverland Winemakers Association. These roles reflect sustained involvement in representation, policy, regional development, and the working conditions behind wine production. He is also Vice Chair of the Riverland Wine Industry Development Council and a Non-Executive Member of Wine Australia Corporation since 2011, extending his involvement into regional and national industry bodies. Across these positions, his contribution has stayed practical and connected to the concerns of producers and the wider sector. At Kingston Estate Wines, his dual role as Managing Director and Chief Winemaker keeps commercial planning and production closely aligned. He works across both, maintaining a direct connection between how the business is run and how the wine is made. The result is a winery led with emphasis on consistency, continuity, and long-term stewardship. His approach to industry presence is equally direct. On meeting international customers, he has said, “This has traditionally been a location that we just meet with all of our international customers.” The focus is on use rather than ceremony, with trade fairs and industry locations serving as working places for contact and follow-up. On shared industry representation, he has said, “It’s preferable that we have a banner that we all congregate under, and I would hope that Wine Australia could find the resources to do both Wine Paris and this fair, because they are both very important.” His view emphasizes collective presence and the importance of the industry showing up where it matters. Moularadellis’s career is centered on Kingston Estate Wines and on the regional and industry bodies that have shaped his work. His record combines founding leadership, chief winemaking, and repeated service to the sector, making him identifiable as both a maker and a representative of the region’s wine industry.
