William "Bill" Samuels Sr. was the founder of Maker’s Mark, the premium bourbon brand developed at the Burks’ Distillery site in Loretto, Kentucky, after he and his wife Margie began experimenting with a smoother, flavor-forward recipe in the early 1950s.
