UC Berkeley provided the technical base for Braiden Albrecht’s work, a foundation that shows up in the discipline of timing, structure, and site expression. That training carries into the cellar at Mayacamas, where the wines are shaped to reflect altitude and the slower tempo of mountain fruit rather than any attempt to smooth away their edges.

The Work Today

At the Napa estate, the work moves from the growing season into harvest and élevage, with each decision tied to how the vintage will hold its frame. Braiden Albrecht’s approach keeps the mountain’s brightness and tension intact, using pick date and cellar handling to preserve structure. Of the 2013 vintage, he says, “2013 is a great vintage for everyone here.”

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a clear example of Braiden Albrecht’s preference for balance built on structure. In that bottling, the estate’s mountain character stays prominent, with depth coming through restraint rather than accumulation.

Wine Spectator Annual Top 100 List, No. 2 wine for a 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (2019) is the clearest external marker here, and it aligns with the cellar logic behind the wines.
