Brooklyn is the working ground of Cathy Erway’s Food Writing: pantry goods, grocery aisles, and Home Cooking handled as reporting materials, not lifestyle markers. Those same constraints shaped Not Eating Out in New York, the blog she founded in 2006 after spending 2006 to 2008 without restaurant, take-out, or street-stand food across New York City.

Her books include The Food of Taiwan: Recipes From the Beautiful Island, described as the first Taiwanese cookbook from a major US publisher, Sheet Pan Chicken, named one of The San Francisco Chronicle’s Best Cookbooks of 2020, and Win Son Presents: A Taiwanese American Cookbook, which she co-wrote and which became an IACP Awards finalist in the Restaurant & Chefs cookbook category in 2024.
