    i. Biography

    Celia Welch is an independent winemaker based in Napa Valley, best known for crafting Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon from the historic J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford since its inaugural 2003 vintage. She earned a B.S. in Fermentation Science from the University of California at Davis in 1982, worked at Silverado Vineyards and Robert Pepi Winery, and has consulted for ultra-premium producers including Staglin Family Vineyard, Barbour Vineyards, and Corra Wines. Welch received the Rising Star Award from Women for Winesense and induction into the Winemaker’s Hall of Fame, and was named Food & Wine Magazine's 2008 Winemaker of the Year.
