i. Biography
Charles Philipponnat has led Champagne Philipponnat in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ since 1999 and is its President. His family traces its roots in Champagne to 1522; he is the fifteenth generation, and his son François now works alongside him. Before taking charge of the house he worked at Moët & Chandon. Philipponnat is known for its Pinot Noir-led style, its perpetual reserve of wines begun in 1946, and Clos des Goisses, its steep single vineyard above the Marne.
