Portrait of Dafna Mizrahi
i. Biography
Training at the Culinary Institute of America gave Dafna Mizrahi a formal base, but the rest of her path was built in service, management, and the daily pressure of restaurant work. In Atlanta, Buckhead Life Group put her in the chef’s role in 2011, where the pace of a busy kitchen shaped the discipline that would define the next stages of her work. Market Street in Rhinebeck, NY, then Clarke's Group in New York City, NY, and later a managerial role at Clarke's Standard in New York City, NY, each added a different layer of responsibility. The result is a career formed through repeated exposure to the practical side of hospitality: long shifts, operational control, and the habit of making decisions in real time. Ownership eventually became part of that same progression. Monte's Local Kitchen & Tap Room and Curamia Tequila reflect a shift from working inside established rooms to shaping them directly. With Mizrahi as founder, owner, chef, CEO, and co-founder, the work extends beyond the line and into identity, brand, and the structure of service itself.
Today
Since 2014, Monte's Local Kitchen & Tap Room in Amenia, New York has been the center of Mizrahi’s work as executive chef, manager, owner, and executive chef. That combination places kitchen execution beside business oversight, where menu decisions, floor operations, and the overall standard of the room are part of the same job. It is a role that depends on consistency as much as creativity, and on understanding how each service reflects the systems behind it.

Signature
Mexican-Jewish cooking is the frame Dafna Mizrahi works within, and it gives her food a clear cultural logic rather than a generic category. The point is not fusion as a concept, but the practical meeting of two traditions that shape how she cooks and what she considers familiar. Her approach treats heritage as something active in the kitchen: a set of references, habits, and memories that can be expressed through daily service.
In Their Words “I went in there to try to have fun and do what I love to do which is cooking.” Taken together, those lines describe a working attitude rather than a slogan. Culture matters, but so does the work itself. The kitchen is where Mizrahi keeps those terms in balance: personal background on one side, craft and execution on the other.
Recognition
Chopped champion and Weber Harley Davidson National Burger Championship are the two honors attached to Mizrahi, and they point to range under pressure. Competition cooking asks for speed, judgment, and clean execution, while a burger championship tests how well a cook can deliver within a tightly defined format. For Mizrahi, those recognitions sit comfortably alongside the demands of Monte's Local Kitchen & Tap Room, where the same kind of control and consistency still matters.
