David Baverstock is an Australian-born winemaker best known for his long tenure at Herdade do Esporão in Alentejo, Portugal, where Esporão says his story began in 1992 when he was invited to come and work as chief winemaker. Esporão’s official site also marks his 30 vintages at the estate with special bottlings named for him, reinforcing his central role in the winery’s modern identity. A Portuguese wine industry profile reports that he led Esporão’s winemaking team from 1992 to 2019 and added responsibility for wine culture and education in 2020.
