i. Biography
After leaving a corporate career in Paris to found a wine estate in southern France, Diane de Puymorin has built her reputation in Costières de Nîmes through a method defined by precision rather than display: organic farming, biodynamic conversion, low yields, late harvesting, and old-vine cuvées assembled with close attention to the separation of character and origin. At Château d'Or et de Gueules, the work has been about drawing identity out of the land and letting each parcel, each vine age, and each decision in the vineyard and cellar register clearly.
Coming Up
Diane de Puymorin is the owner and winemaker of Château d'Or et de Gueules, a role she has held since 1998.
Where They Are Now
The current rhythm at the domaine is built on restraint and patience. The work is organic and in biodynamic conversion, with very low yields and late harvesting setting the terms before the fruit enters the cellar. Those choices tend to sharpen flavor and structure without pushing the wines into excess; the aim here is definition. That disciplined approach is especially visible in the handling of Carignan. Rather than forcing the grape toward brute strength, the estate uses carbonic maceration, a method employed to make the variety more elegant and to avoid over-extraction. The intent is a wine that keeps lift and texture ahead of weight, holding freshness where a heavier hand might have sought density. The domaine’s specialty is its carefully differentiated cuvées from old vines in Costières de Nîmes. This is not a single, undifferentiated expression of the estate, but a set of wines shaped by attention to vine age and character, with each cuvée given a distinct role within the range. That separation is part of the house style: the wines are made to read as specific, even when they come from the same place.
Signature
Diane's signature wines include Trassegum, Les Cimels Rouge, Les Cimels Blanc, La Bolida, and Le fût entre 2 chaises. Together, they map the scope of her work: grounded in the southern landscape, exact in execution, and organized around clarity.
