From there, Bibendum PLB (formerly PLB Group) put her into the commercial side of the trade as National Account Manager, a role she held until 2016. That period placed Haughton at the point where supply, customer demand, and commercial execution meet, and it gave her early experience of the pace and scale the category asks of its buyers. In 2016, Sainsbury’s brought Haughton into Wine Buying, where the brief shifted from account management to assortment, value, and shelf decision-making. Over the next six years, until 2022, she worked inside one of the UK’s largest retail wine businesses, where the buyer has to balance breadth, price, and consumer preference without losing the shape of the range. Since 2022, Haughton has been head of Wine Buying at Sainsbury’s, responsible for the wider direction of the department at senior level.
