Portrait of Gregg Moore
i. Biography
Work at Blue Hill at Stone Barns put ceramic form under restaurant pressure early in Gregg Moore’s career. In collaboration with Dan Barber, Moore worked in a setting where vessels were part of service, not separate from it, and where surface, scale, and handling had to answer the demands of the table. That context established a working standard: ceramics as utility with discipline, shaped for the cadence of dining and presentation. The same attention carries through to his role as professor of ceramic art at Arcadia University and as owner of Heirloom. Across teaching and making, Moore keeps the focus on form in use, on how an object sits in the hand, supports service, and holds up over time. The approach is measured rather than decorative, with the object’s purpose doing most of the work. Today At Arcadia University, Moore serves as Director of the Ceramics program. The position places material judgment at the center of the studio: how clay is handled, how form is resolved, and how making remains tied to use. In Moore’s work, ceramics stay close to the table and to the routines around it, with hand, surface, and ritual kept in plain view.

Signature
Gregg's signature dishes include Farm Cast, Grass-fed bone china tea cups and farm soil saucers, Farm Cast in Four Seasons, Beet Steak Plate, and Rice Bowl. Taken together, these pieces suggest a vocabulary rooted in agriculture, seasonality, and the disciplined beauty of everyday forms. The names themselves evoke the textures and ideas Moore returns to again and again: the grounded simplicity of the farm, the delicacy of bone china, the quiet drama of a plate or bowl shaped for use. His work invites attention not through excess, but through the layered intimacy of objects that feel both precise and deeply humane.
