Guy Stout

Wine service, retail selection, education, and distribution all show up in Guy Stout’s career, and the sequence matters: each step added another layer of judgment about what a bottle needs before it reaches a guest or a buyer. He started as sommelier at Arthur's in Dallas, Texas, then moved into the shop side as a fine wine shop employee in charge of california wine selection at Marty’s, where the work required a working eye for cellar fit and table fit.

That same range carried through later roles. As junior partner at Arwood Stowe, then corporate wine educator at Glazer's Distributors, the job shifted from service to instruction, with wine education becoming part of the work itself. He later became corporate director of beverage education at distribution industry, and then director of wine education texas at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits in Texas, positions that kept him in the educational current of the trade.

He also worked as consultant at restaurants, bringing the same practical vocabulary into dining rooms, where timing, pacing, and pairing shape how wine is read at the table. Today, Guy Stout is salesman of Stout Family Wine, a role that keeps the work tied to wine, service, and communication.

Houston is the base for the current work: salesman for Stout Family Wine. From there, he sells wines from the company’s facility in Napa Valley, carrying the wines from source to client without leaving behind the education and restaurant work that built his perspective.

Houston Icon recognition for contribution to the Wine and Food Industry of Texas marks Guy's work across restaurant consulting, wine education in Texas, and service to the broader wine and Food Industry in Texas. The recognition points to a career built as much through teaching and steady industry labor as through visible leadership. He became only the second Master Sommelier in Texas in 2005.
