i. Biography
Isabel Santiago is described on ZOMOZ Mezcal's own site as a "fourth generation Maestra Mezcalera" working at her family's organic agave plantation and palenque in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, "in the heart of the indigenous Zapotec region near Oaxaca City. An engineer by training, she is the first woman in her family to distill mezcal; the craft passed from her great-grandfather Valente Santiago through her grandfather and father.
