Consumer testing and culinary development met early in Jane Freiman’s career at The Campbell’s Company, where she led the Consumer Test Kitchen. That role demanded more than recipe performance; it required watching how people actually used food, and what they made of it in practice. The work established a method that would carry through the rest of her career: observe closely, keep the focus practical, and treat the cook as the central reference point. From there, the work widened from testing individual recipes to examining the larger forces that shape cooking at home. The home kitchen was treated not as a backdrop, but as a place where habits are formed, choices are made, and products are judged. Smart Kitchen Insights Group grew out of that perspective, giving her a platform to apply that expertise on her own terms.

Today

Founder of Smart Kitchen Insights Group, Jane Freiman now works as a consumer behavior expert on cooking. The job sits at the overlap of culinary development and consumer insight, with attention on how home cooks think, choose, and adjust in the kitchen. The result is a practice grounded in use, not hype, and in the ordinary decisions that determine what ends up on the table.
