i. Biography
Jeff Bundschu’s story begins not in a boardroom but on the family estate in Sonoma, where he was raised among the vines and apprenticed early to the rhythms of the land. Long before he became president of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma in 2001, he was already working there at 12, learning the vineyard from the ground up and absorbing the quiet discipline that winery life demands. That early start gives his perspective a certain directness: when he talks about wine, he speaks less like a theorist than someone who has spent a lifetime with it in his hands and on his palate. “F Chardonnay,” he says with disarming clarity. “I love white wine and the way it comes in so many styles. It can be big, bold, full-bodied and voluptuous or it can be lean, delicate, and nuanced on the lips.”
Coming Up
Jeff Bundschu trained at University of Southern California, a formative chapter that sits alongside his upbringing on the family estate and the many years he has spent working in and around the winery. Today, Jeff is president of Gundlach Bundschu Winery, a role he has held since 2000. That combination of formal study and lived experience has shaped a career that feels at once deeply rooted and steadily forward-looking, guided by a practical understanding of what it means to steward a historic name in Sonoma.
Where They Are Now
His current role is president of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, where the legacy of the estate and the pace of the present meet in daily conversation. The title may be concise, but the responsibility behind it is anything but: it gathers together history, craft, continuity, and the particular demands of making wine in a place that has shaped him since childhood.
Signature
Jeff's signature wines include 2018 Vintage Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the kind of wine that sits comfortably within the estate’s long story while also marking a specific moment in time, carrying the precision and intent that the name suggests.
In Their Words “F Chardonnay. I love white wine and the way it comes in so many styles. It can be big, bold, full-bodied and voluptuous or it can be lean, delicate, and nuanced on the lips.”
