Wine Director at Gary Danko in San Francisco in 2017, Jeremiah Morehouse put University of California, Santa Cruz behind him before building a career in dining rooms and cellars, where the work is measured in timing, service, and the ability to place the right bottle in front of the right table.
The Path
At In Vino Veritas in Santa Cruz, Jeremiah Morehouse helped open the restaurant, an early assignment that asks for judgment as much as stamina. On what he likes to pour, Jeremiah Morehouse said, “Overall, based on the quality and price point, Frog’s Leap is a brand I always like to carry and show across their range—not just the cabernet sauvignon.” The point is clear: a list works best when it can present a producer broadly, not only through its most obvious bottle. For a Wine Director, that means thinking in terms of usefulness, price point, and how a wine performs across the room. He also said, “I had the opportunity to visit six months ago and hang out with John [Williams] and dive into their philosophy.” That kind of visit points to a practical approach: getting close to the producer, understanding the thinking behind the bottles, and bringing that perspective back to service.
