The Path

Training at Shasta College and West Valley High School gave Joshua Harp the formal base for a career defined by steady repetition and practical cellar work. From 2010–2015, he served as Cellar Master at Sextant Wines, where production work demanded consistency, focus, and technical reliability. That experience became the groundwork for his next move to Jada Vineyard & Winery as Assistant Winemaker from 2015–2018, a period that deepened the site awareness and day-to-day winemaking judgment needed for more responsible decision-making in the cellar. In 2018, Joshua Harp moved into the winemaker role at Jada Vineyard & Winery, holding that position through 2024 and continuing to build a style shaped by close attention to fruit, vineyard, and vintage. Today, Joshua Harp is winemaker of Caliza Winery, a position he has held since 2024. The progression is straightforward: long time in the cellar, repeated work across seasons, and a method refined through contact with the same regional conditions year after year.

The Work Today

At Caliza Winery, the emphasis remains on small-lot wines from Paso Robles, with Joshua Harp’s work tied to place rather than volume. He puts it directly: “My passion lies in crafting exceptional small-lot wines from Paso Robles, and I am excited to be part of Caliza’s journey and part of the team.” The line reflects a cellar-first approach that stays grounded in the region while working within a larger team structure. That approach extends beyond production to how the wine is presented. In trade terms, that means the work is not only about what happens in fermentation and élevage, but also about how the finished wine is encountered, framed, and understood once it reaches the tasting room.

Signature

Joshua Harp’s signature wines include 2018 Passing By Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 WCS Syrah, 2021 SawBones, 2018 Strayts, and 2018 Jersey Girl. The range points to a winemaking style centered on vintage expression, vineyard character, and the control required for small-lot production.
