Domaine responsibility in Burgundy is accumulated through repeated decisions rather than announced through title alone. Laurent Lignier has served as winemaker and winemaking lead with fuller control of Domaine Hubert Lignier since 2004. In Morey-Saint-Denis, authority is practical: reading fruit, judging extraction, following élevage, and keeping each site from being blurred by cellar technique. Laurent’s progression has followed that discipline, with the domaine’s identity shaped by steady refinements in vineyard and cellar rather than by dramatic changes of style.

Today

Vine work and cellar work remain connected in the current practice. Laurent Lignier manages vines with Hubert Lignier, while the wines are shaped through hand sorting, minimal new oak, long barrel aging on lees, no racking after malolactic fermentation, gravity bottling, and no fining. The style is built by subtraction. Extraction has been lightened, whole-cluster grapes are used at about 20%, and oak is moderated, producing wines described as lighter, more energetic, floral, and expressive. Precision here means removing excess weight so line, scent, and site definition can hold the frame. Tradition at Domaine Hubert Lignier is carried in specific cellar choices rather than in general claims. No racking after malolactic fermentation, long barrel aging on lees, gravity bottling, and no fining all support a natural vinification and aging language that seeks transparency without giving up structure.

Laurent's signature wines include Domaine Hubert Lignier CHARMES CHAMBERTIN GRAND CRU, Domaine Hubert Lignier CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY 1ER CRU LES BAUDES Organic, and Domaine Hubert Lignier GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 1ER CRU PETITE CHAPELLE. These bottlings show the range of the domaine’s work: grand cru depth, premier cru nuance, and Burgundy’s balance between delicacy and persistence. Their importance is not that they sit outside the method, but that they make the method easier to read.

Recognition

Organic certification for the 2019 vintage is a formal marker in the recent chapter of the domaine. It aligns with a practice already described through traditional and natural vinification and aging. Clos de la Roche carries a separate weight within the domaine’s recognition. Identified as the flagship wine of the domaine, it is the bottling most closely tied to the growth of the Lignier reputation, carrying the family name through a wine built for freshness, elegance, and time.
