i. Biography
The restaurant’s split-level design gives Lawrence Weeks room to stage two conversations at once: Creole cooking and Southern foodways below, and, upstairs, a more refined expression of Creole cuisine shaped by seasonal ingredients, precise technique, and a sharper sense of creativity. The effect is less like a conventional dining room than a carefully composed house of memory and motion, where each floor carries a different register of the same story.
Where It Started Weeks’ work is rooted in Creole cooking and Southern foodways, the twin currents that give his kitchen both direction and depth. He does not set those traditions at the edge of the plate as decoration; he builds from them, letting them determine the rhythm of the menu and the atmosphere of the room. The restaurant becomes, in that sense, more than a place to eat. It functions as a tribute to his family legacy, a living expression of what endures when heritage is cooked rather than merely referenced. The result is grounded and personal, with every plate seeming to carry the quiet authority of lineage.
Who Shaped Them By 2024, Weeks was owner and Executive Chef at North of Bourbon in Louisville, a position that marked a clear point in the arc of his career within the city’s dining scene. What emerges instead is a culinary identity carried by the foodways he cooks from and the family legacy he cites. In other words, the shaping force is not presented as a single formative figure, but as an inherited language of flavor and memory that continues to guide the work.
The Work Today
Today, Weeks leads Murray’s Creole Pub as owner and Executive Chef. The two-story restaurant gathers his French Creole-inspired kitchen and British pub fare under one roof, and the split is integral to its character. Downstairs, the pub side of the house offers a more relaxed register; upstairs, the dining room turns toward Creole cuisine in a more progressive mode, where seasonal ingredients, refined technique, and greater precision and creativity come into focus. That layout gives Weeks’ cooking a clear grammar: downstairs for the pub, upstairs for the Creole dining room, and throughout, the family story that shaped the place. In 2025, Murray’s Creole Pub was described as a tribute to that legacy, and the phrase fits the atmosphere of the restaurant well. The whole house reads like memory translated into service, with the formal and the familiar moving side by side.
