i. Biography
Liza De Guia works in food media as an Executive Producer, founder, Chief Storyteller, and On-Air Host out of Greenpoint, New York. The project, Food. Curated, is built through her own camera, edit, and narration, with De Guia shaping it as both a documentary record and a point of view. What emerges is a practice grounded in observation: people, rituals, and textures used as evidence for what food means in a given place and moment.
The Path
Visual storytelling gave the first structure to the work. At ABC News and Plum TV, De Guia learned to move information quickly without losing the details that make a scene legible. That discipline carried into her role as an On-Air Food Reporter at NY1 in New York City (from 2011), where food became a reporting lens for culture and community. Later, as an Executive Producer at HLN (from 2016), she added another layer of editorial control to an already defined narrative practice. Since 2009, Food. Curated. has remained the core of that practice, held together by the same mix of precision, warmth, and inquiry.
The Work Today
Since 2009, Food. Curated. has been run by De Guia as Executive Producer, Founder, Chief Storyteller, and On-Air Host. The work is clear in its editorial discipline: food is treated not as a subject isolated from context, but as a way into larger human patterns. De Guia puts that plainly: “My job is simply to listen, observe, and translate those moments into stories that help audiences understand the deeper meaning behind the food we love.” That method gives the project its pace and shape, with attention paid to the small details that carry the weight of a scene. As she has said, “Food stories are really human stories,” and that framing keeps the work focused on what the camera can catch and what the edit can reveal.
Signature
The signature work here is Food. Curated, and the title functions like a concise description of the method. It is not a dish in the usual sense, but an editorial format: food selected, framed, and narrated with intent. In De Guia’s hands, the signature is the way the work is assembled as much as what it covers.
In Their Words “My job is simply to listen, observe, and translate those moments into stories that help audiences understand the deeper meaning behind the food we love.” “I’m the creator, host, and filmmaker behind Food. Curated.”
Acclaim
James Beard Award recognition sits alongside De Guia’s body of work as confirmation of a practiced voice rather than a single title. The honor tracks with the consistency of Food. Curated. And with a career built around making food legible through reporting, structure, and close attention to the people around it.
