i. Biography
Margaux Reeder’s cellar work at Château Bastor-Lamontagne in Preignac, France is built around freshness and finesse. In Sauternes, where the register often leans toward weight and opulence, Margaux Reeder keeps the wine moving toward lift: citrus detail, white-fruit clarity, energy, and the region’s natural richness held in balance. The result is composed rather than heavy, precise rather than forced, with the structure of the wine left visible.
The Path
Technical training at Université Bordeaux 2 Victor Segalen and Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs des Travaux Agricoles ENITA gave Margaux Reeder the base for a career shaped by production, materials, and cellar discipline. That foundation is visible in the sequence of roles that followed: second d'exploitation at S.C du Château Tourteau-Chollet (2009–2010), Maître de Chai at SARL Domaine les Roques de Cana (2010–2012), and Commerciale France at Tonnellerie Orion (2012–2015). Each step added a different part of the trade, from cellar operations to the practical language of oak and the wider mechanics of making wine. Since 2015, Margaux Reeder has been Maitre de Chai of SCEA Bastor Lamontagne, where that mix of training and experience continues to shape the cellar. The progression is linear, but the value is in the range it gives her: vineyard expression, cellar detail, and the decisions that bring a finished wine into focus.
The Work Today
At the estate, the method is organized around clarity. Keeping plots separate through fermentation and ageing preserves precision in blending and lets each parcel stay legible until the final composition. The cellar decisions follow the same logic: organic grapes, gentle long pressing of botrytised berries, barrel fermentation, and restrained sulphur use support a style that stays elegant without thinning out. The vintage notes are plainspoken, which suits the work. On 2014, Margaux Reeder said: "2014 was a scary year for the Sauternes region, with capricious weather all year round. Fortunately, with a hot late season and precise harvesting and vinification work, we have obtained an elegant and fresh vintage." The line reads like cellar practice: weather met with timing, harvest discipline, and careful vinification. Freshness here is not an accident; it is protected through the season and carried through to the finished wine.
Signature
Margaux Reeder’s signature wines include Château Bastor-Lamontagne Bordeaux Blanc Sec, Château Bastor Lamontagne 2014, Château Bastor-Lamontagne 2009, and SO Sauternes. Taken together, they point to the same cellar priorities: aromatic lift, polish, and the balance between brightness and the deeper register of Sauternes.
In Their Words “This vintage reveals grapefruit aromas with a moderate liquor.”
