    Portrait of Martial Junquas

    i. Biography

    Early Years

More than five generations of French winegrowing sit behind Martial Junquas. That lineage matters less as heritage branding than as working knowledge: the estate, the vines, and the harvest were already part of the family practice before the 2009 creation of Château Altimar.

    Making a Name

The key shift came in 2009, when vines were taken over from a neighboring estate and Château Altimar was created in Néac. Martial Junquas has served there as oenologist since then, with the property built around the work of the vineyard, the cellar, and the final decision to bottle. Bordeaux wine from the estate is the core brief. The method is direct and fixed: manual harvesting, traditional vinification, one year of aging in oak barrels, and bottling with no fining or filtration.

    The Present

Since 2009, the oenologist’s seat at Château Altimar in Néac has remained with Martial Junquas. The current framework is defined by the same practical line: no herbicides, no insecticides, bio treatments, and a conversion to organic farming. Those choices shape the wines at the level that matters in trade. Fruit comes in by hand, the vinification stays traditional, the oak regime runs for one year, and the wines leave the cellar without fining or filtration.

    Signature

Martial Junquas's signature wines include Château Altimar - Solemnis, Château Altimar - Puy Versannes, Château Haut Chatain, and Château Lacoste Chatain.
