i. Biography
Melly Barajas Cárdenas is the founder and master distiller of Vinos y Licores Azteca (NOM 1533) in Valle de Guadalupe, in the Jalisco highlands, which she opened in 1999. The distillery is "100% owned and operated completely by women", she staffs the whole production chain, from field to bottling, with women, in an industry where roughly 8% of tequila producers are women. Her house brands include Raza Azteca, and she produces La Gritona and Mascota Tequila.
