In Shimla, after a plague prompted a change in plan, Mohan Singh Oberoi entered The Cecil Hotel as a front desk clerk. That post matters in hospitality because it places a worker at the hotel’s most exposed point: receiving arrivals, tracking departures, and reading the operation in real time. The first job stayed central to how he described advancement: not as a break from basic work, but as proof that ordinary roles can be the ground floor of larger responsibility. Mohan Singh Oberoi put it plainly: “My life has been achievement-oriented. I started off as a coal clerk at the Cecil Hotel in Shimla.
