The room, by his own account, is built around a short list of priorities, and that economy says as much about the work as any long explanation: “I still have a “Lyan” thought process to operations and drinks now I have my own business.” The line points to continuity in practice, with White Lyan’s operational discipline carried into his own business. Caretaker’s Cottage, as Rob describes it, is stripped to essentials: “It’s a pub. It’s got Guinness, it’s got martinis and we play records. They were the three pillars.” That framing places the emphasis on a few fixed elements rather than a long list of features. Guinness, martinis, and records give the venue its structure; the work is in holding those pieces in balance and keeping the room legible.
